Find your perfect Aspen winter vacation rental and see Aspen off the slopes…
A second authentic historic gem (1879) is vibrant Aspen (elevation 7,945 feet; population 6,400), with a surplus of everything. Downtown shops favored by fashionistas are Moncler, J. Crew, Gallerie, Nuages and Distractions. The town also has 30 art galleries.
Visitors could spend all day at Aspen Club & Spa, a classic health and fitness center that offers 34 treatment rooms, swimming pool, tennis and cafe. The St. Regis Aspen hotel has the Remède Spa.
Just outside town via free shuttle is Aspen Rec Center’s two swimming pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, weight room, climbing tower and ice rink.
Other electives are programs at Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, cooking classes and public demonstrations at Worldwide Fun Lab, and tastings at Aspen Brewery. Outdoor activities include snowmobile and snowshoe tours, sleigh rides and fly-fishing.
Fine restaurants are an Aspen bonus. New are Buenos Aires Fusion and Crystal Palace Grille in the historic Crystal Palace Theatre building, where dinner includes live music and open-mike nights. An award winner is Montagna, while gourmet favorites are Campo de Fiori, Gusto Ristorante, Kenichi and LuLu Wilson, which occupies a cozy Victorian mining cottage.
Après-ski enjoyment ranges from stand-up comics and other performers in century-old Wheeler Opera House to big-name music entertainers at Belly Up Aspen. Action at other venues varies from salsa nights, jazz and hip-hop dancing to DJs and people-watching.
